About Us
Float With Ease—Reclaim, Release, Rejoice
We believe that water is a source of healing, strength, and connection. Through FLOAT, we create opportunities for marginalized and justice-impacted women to build trust in the water, let go of fear, and embrace freedom, movement, and joy.
At Float, we return women back to the water, in the water and into themselves by providing access to bodies of water, hosting workshops, interventions, retreats, and gatherings. Due to historical and institutional structural racism, black women and women of color have been locked out of recreational and relaxation spaces when it comes to pool, spa and beach access. And we know we aren’t the only ones.
Many of our events are held in affinity groups. When doing care work, it is important that participants feel safe and secure. As we’re practicing be vulnerable and non-performative, it is important to see yourself reflected in this space and not feel like you have to explain how you have to move throughout the world. This means making sure that participants are not surrounded by populations of people that have been historically harmful to one another.
Our gatherings range from ocean cold water immersion, indoor float sessions, sound baths, swim lessons, spa visits, beach meetups, kayak paddles, boat rides, and ferry trips to nearby islands. We want people to get comfortable with being around water and in nature and offering knowledge on how to prepare for these moments- not only for comfort and survival but so we can prepare them to be local advocates for environmental and water justice.

“I would say float offers the opportunity to disconnect and recharge by connecting to nature/water in a calming environment of support. Also, you gather and cultivate community in these spaces.”

The 6 “R’s”:
RECLAIM. We reclaim our relationship with water, our narratives, and our right to leisure. We remove barriers, advocate and provide access. Water should be for everyone.
REMEMBER. Because of imperialization, colonialism and capitalization, many groups have been forced to assimilate into the dominant culture. What often gets lost is language, rituals, and customs. Being grounded with the Earth, or on the water’s edge, helps us to recall her powers and gain ancestral knowledge.
REPAIR. Community & Connection – Healing happens together. We create space for support, learning, and growth.
RELEASE. We let go of fear, stress, and historical trauma to move with ease and trust.
RECOVER. This is the action or process of regaining possession or control of something stolen or lost. The water will wash away our waste and anoint us with it’s healing
REJOICE. We are prioritizing and making time and space for ourselves. We are finding joy in loving ourselves and making this act a daily practice.
